About
the LBAP
Action for Nature - the North Somerset
Local Biodiversity Action Plan is a framework document that outlines the
means by which national action plans will be translated into local action
in North Somerset. The development and implementation of the local biodiversity
action plan is an ongoing process that involves partnerships between local
representatives of the public, private, voluntary and community sectors.
The role of the LBAP is to encourage local people and organisations to
be involved and provide opportunities to raise awareness of the importance
of biodiversity, as well as fostering an appreciation of the natural heritage
of the area. The LBAP document expands on the following areas:
- an assessment of the biodiversity of the area and the main issues
affecting biodiversity
- identification of priority species and habitats
- setting of objectives and targets reflecting national and local
importance
- production and implementation of species and habitat action plans
- monitoring
