| Extent/Distribution There is no data on the status of this habitat in the Cotswold Water Park .The area of arable crops is estimated to be 4152 hectares. The average length of arable field margins in a 1 km2 is approximately 6 km in the central section of the Park. There is likely to be a reduction of cereal cropping area ( and cereal field margin ) in the Cotswold Water Park in the future, as gravel extraction extends into the central area. A substantial proportion of this land will not be restored to agricultural use. 1) To increase the extent of cereal field margins on land used for cereal growing in the Cotswold Water Park. Targets to be set following detailed quantification of area in 1998. Rationale: Cereal field margins are important for many species of conservation concern, including the grey partridge. Advisory Distribute advisory leaflets on grey partridges to local landowners, as well as additional information about the importance of cereal field margins for wildlife as it becomes available. LEAD:NCF PARTNERS: CWP Ranger Service TARGET: ongoing Research and monitoring
Research and Monitoring 1) To quantify the area of cereal field margin in the Cotswold Water Park at present. LEAD: NCF 2) To analyse gravel extraction licenses when these are released to determine the amount of cereal field margin which will be left, and the potential to create new areas.
